Hi.

I’m R and this newsletter is a personal journal of sorts that aggregates various thoughts I’m grappling with during the day (mainly business and food). I often won’t have a firm view point and would be happy for discourse. Join me in my search for frameworks and enduring insights to live a good life.

About Me

I grew up in a suburb barely outside of NYC. Went to college in NYC. Now I work in NYC. Despite being within 30 miles of where I was born, I’ve been lucky to have seen much of the world and live abroad for extended periods of times in different cultures.

I believe many in the US have a very US-centric view—more people could do with a wider worldview and take life a bit less seriously. I further believe one of the best ways is to cut the noise and focus on signals by finding core tenets that won’t shift (Google’s was once “Don’t be evil”).

Please don’t hesitate to reach out via twitter DM or in comments.

About this project

Moreover, life is not long enough; — human nature desires quick results, there is a peculiar zest in making money quickly, and remoter gains are discounted by the average man at a very high rate.

— John Maynard Keynes

Life is short. Our monkey brains always wants the shiniest thing. That short-term thinking makes playing the game of investing quite difficult for the average man (me).

The game of professional investment is intolerably boring and over-exacting to anyone who is entirely exempt from the gambling instinct; whilst he who has it must pay to this propensity the appropriate toll.

— Keynes (Again…)

At the same time, I’m very lucky I get to play the game for a living, so why not try and get better at it?

We’ll explore decision making, business strategy, and pretty much anything else this monkey brain is thinking about.

Please don’t take anything I write too seriously, we’re here to learn, grow and ultimately live a “good life”. Although I’m a “professional”, I’m still young and make many mistakes. Nothing here is investment advice or any type of advice. This is my way of making sense of the world, I hope you may learn something from it too.
